Dear StopGame readers! Very soon they should announce the release date of MGS Phantom pain, and on this occasion, about two months ago I decided to play through that same MGS of 1998. I was too young to appreciate the game at the time, so I skipped it. But then I had some free days, and having accidentally stumbled upon a game on PSN for Vita, I thought it necessary to get acquainted with the classics.
Hello distant 1998
I didn’t even pay attention to the graphics in the game; rather, I even paid tribute to Hideo Kojima for the fact that all the videos were made on the game engine (even though they look like flattened faces with two pixels instead of eyes, it’s quite funny). Also, the great game designer Hideo, pleased me with a justified rumor that in all MGS, including the one I played, there are heroes worked out to the smallest detail, with their own past, which is interesting to study. If anyone doesn’t know, then the main character of the game is Solid Snake, who appears before us as an already formed legend, known for his exploits in “Zanzibar” and “Outer Heaven”, who is used to working alone and considers his only companion to be a walkie-talkie. By the way, about the walkie-talkie. In the game, you can call the required number at any time and communicate with the “headquarters”, or with other people encountered in the game. It would seem that all the time when a character in a game calls us, or performs an action similar to a call, forcing us to listen to the dialogue, (especially in older games) we want to quickly skip this non-binding, often unnecessary conversation and return to the game. Here the situation is different. A significant part of the gameplay we are offered to listen to conversations on the radio. It doesn’t seem like much, but they turn out to be damn interesting! (and they were made, compared to other games of that time, at their best, because they were voiced by professional actors)
"kept you waiting huh"
Getting https://loonybingocasino.co.uk/bonus/ back to the topic of characters, Solid Snake is far from the most interesting of them. The game features the Cyborg Ninja Gray Fox, who in turn is the best operative of the FOXHOUND division, which, by the way, also includes a bunch of other, no less interesting characters. There is also the strongest psychic in the world, Psycho Mantis. *Interesting fact. During the cutscene before the battle with Mantis, he assures us that he can read minds. By counting the number of saves, he determines Snake’s cowardice, and by counting the number of deaths, he determines his strength. A separate moment that I thought was cool was when he asked to put the controller on the floor, after which he announced that he would demonstrate his power of telekinesis. The joystick is supposed to vibrate. It’s a pity that I played on Vita, this moment was missed here.*
And these are just a few characters, the rest are also made at five!
Like good wine
Hideo Kojima made the game truly fresh for its time. In addition to fascinating negotiations and videos made on the game engine, the game revolutionized (again, for its time) the stealth action genre back in 1998, if not spawned its foundations. We are all used to games that lead us by the hand, marking the goal on the map. You need to turn your head on right away. They give you a task, tell you where it can be completed, and off you go! Here are open locations teeming with guards. Get to the goal! Moreover, it’s better not to involve security. This is a Stealth action game after all.
Even though you’re sneaky, you’ll still have to fight ninjas
As for the plot, I don’t want to say much, you never know who will decide to complete the game. I’ll just say that it’s intriguing, although it makes you smile from the movie cliches (1998, back then it wasn’t cliches yet)
Failure is impossible
Phantom pain, after what we saw in Ground Zeroes, promises us to make the same revolution in the genre as the 1st mgs and its subsequent parts did in its time. Therefore, I strongly advise everyone to go through the classics. Especially if you want to evaluate Kojima’s new creation in the future.
